Winter is Coming

November 6, 2017

Fall leaves are dropping and the air is getting colder throughout the beautiful state of Utah. As summer fades away into the colder months of winter, the promise of snow and cold weather is fresh on the minds of many Utah inhabitants. And though many of us are sad to see the warm days of summer leave us behind, we can all agree that excitement is on its way:

The holiday season is coming!

Though you may already be tuning into Christmas music during your commute to work and drooling over which holiday foods you're going to eat, there's something that many drivers wish they had better prepared for during the winter season:

Winter Vehicle Maintenance.

We all know how cold and icy Utah winters can become, so your friends at Larsen's Auto Repair in Provo have created a vehicle checklist for the best (and safest) winter experience for you and your loved ones during the most wonderful time of the year.

Winter Vehicle Care 101:

Cold Weather Maintenance

It's important to keep up on your vehicle maintenance at any point, but it is crucial to maintain your vehicle's health during the cold weather season, as the freezing temperatures can make existing problems even worse.

Watch out for these vehicle problems and have them taken care of quickly to ensure a safe and stress-free transport experience:

1. Hard Starts - if your car has a hard time starting during colder weather, take it in for an inspection to ensure you won't get stuck in the cold.

2. Rough Idling - if your car shakes or makes loud noises while idling, have it checked out quickly to make sure there are no serious problems.

3. Diminished Power - reduced power during the winter months can be dangerous, as you are relying on your car's performance to keep you and your loved ones safe and warm while driving in the snow.

Also be sure to have your licensed mechanic check these crucial vehicle components to ensure the most safe, reliable, and enjoyable winter driving experience:

- Heating/Defroster

- Battery

- Brakes

- Tires

- Oil

- Windshield Wipers

- Antifreeze

And lastly, it is never a bad idea to carry a vehicle emergency kit within your car--especially during the winter season.

Pack some food, warm blankets, and water in the trunk of your car just in case. It's never too late to be prepared.

Don't know if your car is ready for the cold? Don't be afraid to ask!
